“He who has a slack hand becomes poor, but the hand of the diligent makes rich.”

Proverbs 10:4 (New King James Version)

When looking at this verse, the emphasis is on the posturing of the heart of the person that will determine whether the person’s hand will lead to destruction or abundance. One can be unemployed and still be diligent, just in the same way that people can have a job, yet work carelessly, sloppily, and even a little deceitfully. Ultimately, God asks us to have a grateful heart in everything we do, because that allows us to bring Him glory through the work we do. Being grateful for a job, rather than seeing it as a burden, allows us to do our work with love. Gratitude is a part of love, as gratitude allows us to clearly see that Jesus is still in control.

“And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”

Colossians 3:17 (New King James Version)
